“Tiki-style drinks and tiki bars have always been a soft spot for Zack Thomas (beverage director) and myself,” says Jake Wood. “There’s so much you can explore with it and it ties into the surfy, Mid-century modern vibe of Lawrence Barbecue,” but with cultural appropriateness of what tiki is and has been over the years.
“We wanted to steer away from that and create our own thing,” Wood says. “We’ve never heard of a leisure bar or leisure beverages,” he says, adding that it allows the team to explore within their own concept, keeping it fresh and fun.
“We want to be a go-to for folks going forward, who have wanted to do a tiki bar, but to show Lagoon as a more appropriate way to express that style of bartending and concept.”
