RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. [April 22, 2025] – Taco lovers and foodies can indulge in authentic Mexico City-style tacos at La Taqueria by Katsuji, which is now open at Boxyard RTP, the experiential dining and retail destination in the heart of Research Triangle Park (RTP). Founded by Chef Katsuji Tanabe, who gained popularity with appearances on Bravo’s Top Chef and as a winner on Food Network’s Chopped, and acclaimed local restaurateur Anthony Rapillo, this fast-casual concept brings fresh, flavorful tacos to the Boxyard RTP community.

The duo, who previously partnered on Flour & Barrel Kitchen + Bar in downtown Raleigh, are dedicated to elevating the local food scene. La Taqueria by Katsuji blends Tanabe’s innovative culinary vision with Rapillo’s expertise in creating dynamic dining experiences, focusing on simplicity and originality to become the Triangle’s preferred taco destination.

“I grew up eating these tacos on the streets of Mexico City, so this is personal for me,” said Tanabe. “La Taqueria by Katsuji is all about simple, bold flavors – just really good tacos and great drinks in a fun, laid-back spot. Boxyard RTP is the perfect place for it, surrounded by other passionate food people. I can’t wait to share these flavors with the Triangle.”

Tanabe’s innovative culinary technique, affectionately known as the “Hot Tub of Meat,” sets La Taqueria by Katsuji apart. A choricero filled with lard, confit, secret spices and broth ensures that meats such as chicken, chorizo and brisket are slow-cooked to perfection. The menu features an array of expertly crafted, flavorful tacos, including suadero beef brisket, chorizo and Norte Carolina sweet potato, paired with vibrant toppings like pickled red onion, cilantro and house-made salsas. Guests can also enjoy signature cocktails, such as the passion fruit and coconut mezcalina, or sip on local lager and IPA from Flour & Barrel Beer.

“Chef Katsuji and Anthony bring incredible talent and passion to Boxyard RTP,” said Carolyn Coia, vice president of real estate for Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina, which manages Boxyard RTP. “Chef Katsuji’s impressive culinary background and dedication to distinctive, authentic flavors shine through in every taco and cocktail at La Taqueria by Katsuji. The beauty of this concept lies in its simplicity – exceptional ingredients, perfectly executed. It’s a fantastic addition to the diverse dining experiences at Boxyard RTP and a true reflection of our community’s energy and creativity.”

La Taqueria by Katsuji is located in Suite 100 at Boxyard RTP, 900 Park Offices Drive, within Hub RTP, the vibrant downtown destination for RTP. To explore the La Taqueria by Katsuji’s menu, place online orders or review hiring opportunities, visit https://bit.ly/LaTaqueriaBoxyard
