The old way of breaking for lunch in RTP may have looked something like this: 12 o’clock hits and you make a mad dash to the nearest fast food joint only to then turn right around and eat at your desk alone or in the office breakroom. Let’s change that.

As we head back to work, whatever that may look like, let’s rethink how we use our lunch hour. Every Thursday from 12pm to 2pm Boxyard RTP will have a live acoustic singer-songwriter on the BeatBox stage. The artist(s) and genre will change each week, but the intent will stay the same. Try ordering some food ahead of time, enjoying the fresh air, and giving yourself the time (and permission) to recharge during this well-deserved break in the day.

This week Taking Back Thursday is happening during Unboxing Wknd! Swing by the welcome table for free swag and enter the drawing for a chance to win gift cards to Boxyard RTP vendors. Gift card winners will be drawn and announced during LOJO on 11/19. You do not have to be present to win.

Our musical performances happen rain or shine under our covered Pavilion on the BeatBox stage. In the event of extreme weather, such as flooding, ice or lightning, performances will be canceled. Follow us on Instagram for updates on time changes or cancelations.

This Week’s Performer: Wake Moody

Chapel Hill artist Wake Moody’s music is built on the good vibes of old-school R&B, rock and modern pop with lyrics that deal with the complexities of life and love. Songs like “Shivers” and “Won’t Let Go” mine this territory. Sonic inspirations range from Daniel Caesar to Lianne la Havas, from Frank Ocean to Earth Wind and Fire. “My childhood was sound-tracked by my parents’ favorite R&B, classic rock and soul records,” he explains, an influence apparent in his band’s soulful live shows, featuring hypnotic grooves and vocal harmonies.
