The old way of breaking for lunch in RTP may have looked something like this: 12 o’clock hits and you need to make a mad dash to the nearest fast food joint only to then turn right around and eat at your desk alone or in the office breakroom. Let’s change that.

As we head back to work, whatever that may look like, let’s rethink how we use our lunch hour. Every Thursday from 12pm to 2pm Boxyard RTP will have a live acoustic singer-songwriter on the BeatBox stage. The artist(s) and genre will change each week, but the intent will stay the same. Try ordering some food ahead of time, enjoying the fresh air, and giving yourself the time (and permission) to recharge during this well-deserved break in the day.

Our musical performances happen rain or shine under our covered Pavilion on the BeatBox stage. In the event of extreme weather, such as flooding, ice or lightning, performances will be canceled. Follow us on Instagram for updates on time changes or cancelations.

This Week’s Performer: Matt Laird

Matt Laird is a multi-instrumentalist from Durham, North Carolina. Laird has collaborated with many up-and-coming singer-songwriters in the thriving North Carolina music scene, performing live on electric and upright bass, arranging/recording string sections for recordings, and working as a session musician for various recording sessions. In this duo series, Laird will feature a new NC-based singer-songwriter each week and will perform their original music in addition to an assortment of pop/R&B/soul covers. These performances will showcase Laird’s electric/upright bass and violin playing as textures to elevate each week’s featured guests’ music. Featured guest vocalists have performed thorughout the country with their original music and amassed millions of listens across streaming platforms.
