This Week’s Performer: D. Shawn & Soul Live with Special Guests
Darius Middleton, known as “D. Shawn,” was born in North Carolina and found interest in sports, travel, and education as he grew up; but music became his most important pastime. He began singing at age four, which opened the door for him to sing and lead the Praise and Worship group in church. Music study remained Middleton’s passion throughout college and he graduated from North Carolina Central University in 2015, where he achieved his Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Minor in Jazz Studies. “D. Shawn & Soul” was formed with Howard Joyner in 2016 and led to numerous performances and accolades and a recently launched tour. The band has opened for numerous artists in the industry such as Meek Mill, Yo Gotti, Migos, Ty Dolla Sign and many others.
Howard Joyner known as “Soul” grew up in New York and North Carolina. He first found interest in drums, learned to play piano and has directed numerous church bands and services. Joyner attended North Carolina Central University to study sound engineering and has played and produced piano recordings professionally, since 2005. He currently produces for numerous artists, such as D. Shawn, Bruno Mars bass guitarist Jamaero Artis, and Jamla Records own: Heather Victoria and Rapsody. Joyner also started “Give Em Soul” a music production company based out of Durham, North Carolina.

– Boxyard RTP is an open-air facility that will continue to follow in accordance with all Covid-19 regulations put in place by Durham County. Masks are optional at Boxyard, but individual vendor policies may vary. We recommend bringing a mask with you. Stay kind to those who choose to still wear one.
– In addition to regular cleanings, hand sanitizer stations are provided throughout our facility.
– Our tables are spaced out, so you do not feel right on top of your neighbor.
