Today’s Band: The Sunday Special
The Sunday Special is an energetic new band emerging from the Raleigh, NC music scene. In the short time they have been together, the Sunday Special has performed in front of insatiable crowds, demanding more of the unique blend of raucous fun and spiritual exhilaration that has become a consistent part of the band’s live sets. The Sunday Special was born out of a weekly funk jam featuring many of central NC’s best musicians gathering together getting their nerdy rocks off while also crafting very catchy, memorable hooks, insightful lyrics, and deep, danceable grooves. The core of the band consists of bassist/singer Matt Grady (Outside Soul), keyboardist Santel Reid (Pastor Larry D. Reid solo, The Gospel Express), and vocalist Gennie Raybon. Raybon’s powerful and soulful vocal delivery is the perfect match for the hard-hitting groove and movement of the band. Each song will get stuck in your head and you will be singing along for days after the show. It’s pop music for music heads or jazz for pop fans. Whatever you want to call it; The Sunday Special will give you a show that will stick in your gut like an after-church dinner at your favorite Aunt’s house.
