Does anyone else miss the excitement of travel and exposure to cultures not easily found in North Carolina? “Think globally, dance locally” is our new motto, so we’re hosting an eclectic line-up of musicians for “Hear and There,” your passport to celebrate the sounds of the world.
Stop by at lunchtime on Wednesdays to hear international instruments and grooves on the BeatBox stage.
This Week’s Performer: Kevin Van Sant
Jazz and bossa nova guitar, perfect as Summer turns to Fall. Guitarist Kevin Van Sant has been a mainstay of the Triangle NC jazz scene for over 20 years. A virtuosic solo guitarist and accomplished ensemble player, Kevin has performed around the world and at major jazz festivals including five times at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Owen Cordle, a contributing writer to Jazz Times magazine, has written of Kevin’s guitar playing: “Van Sant’s mastery is remarkable”. And from Jazz Guitar Life magazine: “His commitment to the instrument, as an improviser and accompanist, is quite accomplished and comprehensive, bowing to the tradition, while acknowledging a modern familiarity as well.” Kevin has been the jazz guitar instructor at Duke University since 2016.
