Does anyone else miss the excitement of travel and exposure to cultures not easily found in North Carolina? “Think globally, dance locally” is our new motto, so we’re hosting an eclectic line-up of musicians for “Hear and There,” your passport to celebrate the sounds of the world.

Stop by at lunchtime on Wednesdays to hear international instruments and grooves on the BeatBox stage.

This Week’s Performer: Ancestor Piratas

ANCESTOR PIRATAS is the solo/keyboards music project of Renzo Ortega, Peruvian via New York, Carrboro-based artist. He has been performing and recording music for over 30 years, playing both political and love songs in different locations, including museums, art spaces, and D.I.Y. venues in North Carolina, New York, Texas, Chicago, Detroit, Berlin, Lima, and México City. He began his music career in the underground music scene of his native Lima-Perú, performing with the pioneer electronic duo “Cuerpos del Deseo” (1990-1991). Renzo lived in New York for over sixteen years, where he founded the immigrant band R-Tronika (2003-2016); later, in the fall of 2016, he relocated to Carrboro, NC. Renzo is an accomplished visual artist exhibiting in art institutions and Museums and created commissioned public art murals. With Ancestor Piratas, Renzo performs crafted live versions from his music catalog and selected songs that embrace the movement for a world without borders.

Covid Precautions:

– Boxyard RTP is an open-air facility that will continue to follow in accordance with all Covid-19 regulations put in place by Durham County. Masks are optional at Boxyard, but individual vendor policies may vary. We recommend bringing a mask with you. Stay kind to those who choose to still wear one.
– In addition to regular cleanings, hand sanitizer stations are provided throughout our facility.
– Our tables are spaced out, so you do not feel right on top of your neighbor.
