On January 1-8, Boxyard will be temporarily closed and events have been canceled due to construction. We’re excited to welcome you back when we reopen January 9. Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work to bring you an even better experience.

Does anyone else miss the excitement of travel and exposure to cultures not easily found in North Carolina? “Think globally, dance locally” is our new motto, so we’re hosting an eclectic line-up of musicians for “Hear and There,” your passport to celebrate the sounds of the world.

Stop by at lunchtime on Wednesdays to hear international instruments and grooves on the BeatBox stage.

This Week’s Performer: Matt Laird

Matt Laird is a multi-instrumentalist from Durham, North Carolina. Laird has collaborated with many singer-songwriters and instrumentalists in the thriving North Carolina music scene (Big Something, Halo Trio, William Hinson, Victoria Victoria, etc.). Laird is well-known for his live performances on electric/upright bass, arranging/recording string sections, and working as a session musician for various album recordings. In this duo series, Laird will feature mandolinist Simon Dunson. Dunson is an active performer/composer within the jazz, bluegrass, and improvisational worlds. Dunson’s 2021 release, “Chicken Bridge,” showcases his unique voice on the mandolin. Throughout this series, Laird and Dunson will perform a mix of instrumental originals, standards, and recognizable pop tunes.
